Occupational Therapy Doctorate Student

My name is Sydney, and I am currently a Doctoral Occupational Therapy student at Xavier University. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with minors in Psychology and Applied Health Sciences in 2022.

Throughout my academic journey, I have gained valuable hands-on experience through various Level 1 and Level 2 fieldwork placements, including multiple pediatric outpatient clinics, a school-based setting, a hand therapy clinic, multiple acute care settings, and an international outpatient clinic in Guatemala, as well as my doctoral capstone placement at a skilled nursing and long-term care facility.

Before entering occupational therapy school, I shadowed occupational therapists across a variety of settings, which further solidified my passion for the profession. I also completed an internship at a chiropractic and physical therapy clinic, where I earned my Certified Personal Training certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

As a former collegiate cross country and track athlete, I have developed a strong appreciation for physical fitness and wellness which has fueled many of my professional goals. I am deeply passionate about promoting healthy aging and helping individuals with mobility challenges, as well as individuals diagnosed with dementia. Having several family members affected by dementia has given me a personal understanding of the challenges individuals and their families face. These experiences have inspired me to pursue a career in occupational therapy, so I can help people engage in meaningful activities, maintain their independence and dignity, and improve their overall well-being.

This website serves as a platform to share information about my goals, experiences, skills, and professional growth. My aim is to provide insight into my academic journey, projects, and future career as I continue to develop into a compassionate and skilled occupational therapist.
